Both organisations share the conviction that it is essential for children and young people in Spain to learn programming and computational logic to face the challenges of the future\u2014skills as fundamental as learning foreign languages.<\/p>\n<p>The Code.org project has already achieved broad consensus in Spain, gaining the support of four former prime ministers: <strong data-start=\"1031\" data-end=\"1099\">Felipe Gonz\u00e1lez, Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Aznar, Jos\u00e9 Luis Rodr\u00edguez Zapatero,<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1104\" data-end=\"1121\">Mariano Rajoy<\/strong>. In the business sector, it has received backing from <strong data-start=\"1176\" data-end=\"1206\">Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda \u00c1lvarez-Pallete<\/strong> (Chairman of Telef\u00f3nica), <strong data-start=\"1233\" data-end=\"1255\">Carlos Torres Vila<\/strong> (CEO of BBVA), <strong data-start=\"1271\" data-end=\"1285\">Jos\u00e9 Bogas<\/strong> (CEO of Endesa), and senior executives from <strong data-start=\"1330\" data-end=\"1382\">Gestamp, Red El\u00e9ctrica de Espa\u00f1a, Glovo, Cabify,<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1402\">Coverwallet<\/strong>, among others. Institutions such as <strong data-start=\"1439\" data-end=\"1447\">CEOE<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1449\" data-end=\"1461\">Adigital<\/strong>, and the <strong data-start=\"1471\" data-end=\"1504\">Princess of Girona Foundation<\/strong>, as well as media groups like <strong data-start=\"1535\" data-end=\"1566\">Prisa, Vocento, Atresmedia,<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1571\" data-end=\"1585\">Grupo God\u00f3<\/strong>, have also expressed their support for the initiative\u2019s development in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, the <strong data-start=\"1680\" data-end=\"1692\">Code.org<\/strong> educational platform had <strong data-start=\"1718\" data-end=\"1737\">10,000 teachers<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1742\" data-end=\"1774\">over 250,000 active students<\/strong> in Spain. Globally, more than <strong data-start=\"1805\" data-end=\"1828\">55 million students<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1833\" data-end=\"1856\">2 million educators<\/strong> have been trained through the platform, which has delivered over <strong data-start=\"1922\" data-end=\"1943\">1.1 billion hours<\/strong> of \u201cHour of Code\u201d workshops worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1986\" data-end=\"2027\">The Importance of Computer Literacy<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2029\" data-end=\"2389\">Despite programming being one of the most in-demand professions, in Spain <strong data-start=\"2103\" data-end=\"2121\">82% of parents<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2126\" data-end=\"2145\">76% of students<\/strong> are unaware of what programming languages are or what subjects they encompass, according to the report <em data-start=\"2249\" data-end=\"2294\">\u201cComputer Science Education in Spain 2015.\u201d<\/em> In addition, <strong data-start=\"2308\" data-end=\"2327\">82% of teachers<\/strong> had never learned how to use technology as a teaching tool.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2391\" data-end=\"2510\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><strong data-start=\"2391\" data-end=\"2410\">Elena Gorostiza<\/strong>, Director of Strategic Partnerships for EMEA at Code.org, emphasised that \u201cthe importance of our mission\u2014which the great visionaries of our country have recognised\u2014transcends ideologies because its impact is real, tangible, and essential for young people and for the future competitiveness of Spain.
