Madrid, 9 June 2026.<\/strong> Spain has significant assets with which to position itself in the new European industrial landscape, but turning that potential into real competitiveness will require not only investment and innovation, but also regulatory stability and the capacity to execute at scale. In a context in which competitiveness is no longer defined solely by costs, but by positioning within the new industrial model, this challenge takes on a strategic dimension. This was made clear yesterday in Madrid during the presentation of Axis: A New Industrial Horizon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The event, held at the Ortega-Mara\u00f1\u00f3n Foundation, brought together political representatives, experts in energy transition and investment, and actors from the business ecosystem to analyse the future of Spanish industry at a time marked by technological transformation, geopolitical pressure and the need to strengthen European strategic autonomy. The discussion showed that the industrial agenda has consolidated itself as a cross-cutting priority, with growing consensus around its role in the country\u2019s competitiveness and resilience.<\/p>\n

The meeting opened with institutional remarks by V\u00edctor Marcos, Director-General for Energy Planning and Coordination, and was structured around two conversations. The first, \u201cReindustrialisation, a Shared Challenge\u201d, featured Francisco Conde, spokesperson for the Industry and Tourism Committee for the People\u2019s Party; Mar\u00eda Jes\u00fas \u00c1lvarez, spokesperson for the Industry and Tourism Committee in the Senate for the PSOE; and Aina Vidal, member of the Industry Committee in Congress for Sumar.<\/p>\n

The second, \u201cIndustry and Strategic Autonomy for the World Ahead\u201d, brought together Bianca Dragomir, Director of Clean Tech for Iberia; Javier Mazorra, Coordinator of the Q Cero Alliance; Emilio Mart\u00edn-More, Coordinator of the Sustainable Finance Working Group of the Spanish Green Growth Group and Sustainability Advocacy at BBVA; and Nemesio Fern\u00e1ndez-Cuesta, member of the Advisory Board of OIKOS.<\/p>\n

The closing remarks were delivered by Miriam Zaitegui, Director of the Spain Programme at the European Climate Foundation.<\/p>\n

Axis<\/a>: from sectoral analysis to a paradigm shift<\/strong><\/p>\n

Axis. A New Industrial Horizon brings together interviews, reports and analysis on the main vectors transforming industry, from the digitalisation of factories to the decarbonisation of steel, electric mobility and the circular economy. Beyond sectoral analysis, the special report offers an integrated reading of the current moment: the energy transition and industrial policy are converging in a single process of transformation of the productive model. Its pages also address clean technologies, the role of renewables in industrial competitiveness and the geopolitical dimension of European strategic autonomy.<\/p>\n

The project is the result of work carried out in recent months by the European Climate Foundation and Harmon, involving more than twenty professionals from the political, academic and business spheres, with the aim of providing context, structuring the debate and contributing to decision-making in an increasingly demanding environment.<\/p>\n

We are witnessing a profound reconfiguration of how we produce, where value is captured and what determines competitiveness. In this new context, advantage will not come only from technology, but from the ability to align energy, industry and capital around a decarbonised system. Those who understand this transformation as a structural opportunity will be the ones who define the next stage of industrial development in Europe,\u201d says Miriam Zaitegui, Director of the Spain Programme at the European Climate Foundation.<\/p>\n
